Packaging rules & methods for live carrier shipping

Packaging rules determine how items are grouped into packages when shipping through a live carrier. Setting them up correctly ensures shipments are optimized for cost, safety, and carrier compliance.

Packaging methods in ShipX

Here are the three different packaging methods in the ShipX app.

Pack by cart attributes

Packages are created based on the cart’s attributes such as weight, volume, quantity, or total value.

You can define limits for each box, and items are automatically grouped to fit within those limits.

💡

Best suited for: Standard products where total weight or size determines the shipping cost.

Pack each product separately

Each product in the cart is packed individually in its own box.

💡

Best suited for: Fragile, oversized, or high-value products that require individual packaging or when carriers charge per item.

AI-based packaging algorithm

An intelligent algorithm automatically determines the most efficient packing arrangement based on product dimensions and weight.

It reduces empty space, optimizes packaging, and minimizes the number of boxes used per shipment

💡

Best suited for: Orders with multiple items of varying sizes and weights.
