The Pack by cart attributes method allows you to create packages based on key cart details, such as weight, volume, quantity, or total value. This ensures accurate shipping rate calculations from live carriers while optimizing packaging efficiency.
How to setup Pack by cart attributes
- Click “Add shipping rate” on the shipping zone where you want this packing method to apply.
- Select “Live carriers” as the rate type.
- Enter a “Shipping rate name” for internal reference. This name will not be visible to customers. Only the carrier’s live services will appear at checkout.
- Select your preferred carrier to calculate live shipping rates.
- Click the “Sync” button, input your carrier account details, and click the “Save” button.
- By default, Shopify uses your fulfillment location. To use a different location, enable “Specify different location” and enter the address details.
- Choose the carrier services you wish to offer to customers.
- Choose “Pack by cart attributes” and select the attributes you want to base the packaging on (e.g., Cart Weight).
- Restrict this packing method to specific products, if required.
- Click “Add package” to add the packaging boxes:
- Enter the maximum weight and dimensions for each box.
- Start with boxes of the lowest capacity and progress to larger ones.
- Optionally, include the empty box weight for more accurate calculations.
- Click “Add package” to include multiple box sizes.
- Define a fallback flat rate in case the carrier does not return a rate response.
- Click “Save” to complete the configuration.
