ShipX is a custom shipping rate provider app for Shopify that lets you set your own shipping rates based on a wide range of criteria, including cart, product, and customer-based rules.
Why should I use ShipX?
If you already have shipping rates but want more flexibility in how they’re applied, ShipX allows you to manually configure rates using the available parameters.
ShipX also integrates with major live carriers like UPS, USPS, FedEx, Sendle, DHL, Australia Post, and Canada Post. To fetch shipping rates from any of these carriers, you must have your own production account with the respective carrier.
By connecting your carrier account credentials, you can fetch real-time shipping rates directly from your chosen carrier, giving your customers accurate delivery costs at checkout.
Enabling ShipX on Shopify
To display ShipX-calculated rates at checkout, you must enable Shopify’s Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) API and add ShipX as your rate provider.
Note: The CCS API is a Shopify-required feature for shipping rate calculations. ShipX does not receive any direct benefit from this feature.
CCS API Eligibility
The availability of CCS API depend on your Shopify store’s plan:
Plan | Monthly | Annual |
Shopify Plus | Available and included | Available and included |
Shopify Advanced | Available and included | Available and included |
Shopify Grow | Additional $20/month | Available and included |
Other Plans | Not available | Not available |
To get access to the CCS API, switch to the paid plan if you haven’t already.
How to Check if the CCS API is Activated
If you’re unsure whether the CCS API is active on your store, follow these steps:
- Go to Shopify Settings > Shipping and delivery > General Shipping Rates.

- Under Shipping zones > Add rate > Rate type > Use carrier or app to calculate rates.

- If you can see ShipX listed, the CCS API is already active.

- Click “Done” button then “Save” your settings to start using ShipX for rate calculations.

- If you get an error message saying “There are no carriers or apps available for this zone,” it means the CCS API is not yet activated.
How to Get CCS API via Shopify Support
If CCS isn’t activated yet, you can enable it by contacting Shopify Support.
- Go to the Shopify Help Center.
- Log in with your store owner account.
- Ask the virtual assistant to connect you to a live agent.
- Select the store that requires CCS activation.
Once connected, use the following prompts based on your plan:
If you’re on the Advanced plan:
“I’m using Shopify’s Advanced plan, but the Carrier Calculated Service API isn’t available. Could you please enable it on my account so I can use ShipX?”
If you’re on the Shopify plan:
“Could you add the Carrier Service API to my Shopify plan for $20/month so that I can use ShipX’s features?”
The Shopify Support agent will process your request and activate the API within minutes.
How to Set Up Carrier-Calculated Shipping Rates
After CCS API activation, follow these steps to set up carrier-calculated rates from ShipX:
- From your Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Shipping and Delivery.

- Under the Shipping section, open the shipping profile where you want to add rates.
- Next to the desired shipping zone, click “Add rate” button.

- Select the “Use carrier or app to calculate rates” option
- From the drop-down, choose “ShipX – Shipping Rates & Rules.”

- Click “Done” button followed by the “Save” button.

Your customers will now see real-time shipping rates from ShipX at checkout.
Troubleshooting: Reasons Why CCS API May Stop Working
The CCS API may become inactive if:
- You downgrade from an Advanced to a Basic plan.
- You don’t renew your Shopify subscription.
- Your store moves from a development plan to a paid plan.
When this happens, ShipX cannot provide shipping rates at checkout. Please contact Shopify Support again to re-enable the CCS API.
