Migrating ShipX to Market-driven Shipping

Shopify is transitioning stores to Market-driven Shipping, where shipping options are managed through Shopify Markets instead of the previous shipping profile and zone-based configuration.

ShipX supports this new shipping model through ShipX Regions.

If your store has moved to Market-driven Shipping in Shopify, you can migrate your existing ShipX configuration by selecting Switch to Markets in ShipX.

🚨

Important: Migrating ShipX to the new Region-based configuration is permanent. Once completed, ShipX cannot be switched back to the previous zone-based configuration.

Shopify Migration vs ShipX Migration

There are two separate steps involved in moving to Market-driven Shipping.

Step
Where
What happens
1. Switch in Shopify
Shopify Admin
Your store moves to Shopify's Market-driven Shipping configuration
2. Switch in ShipX
ShipX
Your existing ShipX configuration is migrated from shipping zones to ShipX Regions

Switching to Market-driven Shipping in Shopify does not automatically migrate your ShipX configuration.

You must separately select Switch to Markets in ShipX when you're ready to migrate.

⚠️

Important: Shopify currently allows stores to opt out of Market-driven Shipping during the transition period until July 1, 2027. Once you complete the migration within ShipX, however, the ShipX migration cannot be reversed.

Before You Migrate

You don't need to recreate or manually prepare your ShipX configuration before migrating. ShipX will automatically migrate your existing setup.

Before proceeding, make sure your store has already moved to Shopify's Market-driven Shipping configuration.

🚨

Important: Once you complete the migration in ShipX, it cannot be reversed.

What Happens When You Switch to Markets in ShipX?

When you select Switch to Markets, ShipX automatically converts your existing zone-based configuration to the new Region-based configuration.

Your existing shipping setup is retained during migration, so you don't need to recreate your configuration. Once the migration is complete, simply verify your setup and test your shipping rates.

Shipping Zones Become Regions

The geographical areas currently associated with your ShipX configuration are converted into ShipX Regions.

For example:

Before migration

United States shipping zone → Shipping scenarios and rates

After migration

United States Region → Shipping scenarios and rates

Regions are managed directly within ShipX and are no longer dependent on Shopify shipping zones.

Existing Shipping Rates Are Retained

Your existing ShipX shipping rates are retained during migration and associated with the corresponding ShipX Regions.

You don't need to recreate your rates after migration.

Existing Scenarios Are Retained

Your existing ShipX scenarios, conditions, and rate logic are also retained during migration.

After migration, your scenarios use ShipX Regions instead of the previous Shopify shipping zones.

You don't need to recreate your scenarios or their conditions.

After Migration

Once the migration is complete, your existing ShipX configuration will already be available under the new Region-based setup.

You only need to complete a few quick checks:

1. Verify Your Regions

Go to ShipX → Settings → Regions and make sure your main shipping destinations are available as expected.

💡

Note: In some cases, the same destination may appear in multiple Regions after migration if it was previously configured across multiple Shopify shipping profiles or zones. This is expected and preserves your existing configuration. You can continue using the migrated setup or consolidate these Regions later if needed. Before deleting a Region, make sure any required rates and scenarios are retained.

2. Enable ShipX in Your Shopify Markets

Make sure ShipX is enabled as a rate provider in each Shopify Market where you want ShipX rates to be available.

⚠️

Important: ShipX Regions and Shopify Markets are separate. Creating a Region in ShipX does not automatically enable ShipX as a rate provider for the corresponding Shopify Market.

3. Test Your Shipping Rates

Use ShipX Test Mode or complete a test checkout for your important destinations.

Verify that the expected shipping rates are returned.

👉

Tip: If your Regions are correct and your expected rates are working after migration, no additional changes are required.

Markets vs Regions

After migration, Shopify Markets and ShipX Regions serve different purposes.

Shopify Markets determine where ShipX is enabled as a shipping rate provider.

ShipX Regions determine which ShipX shipping scenarios and rates apply based on the customer's delivery destination.

For a ShipX rate to appear at checkout:

ShipX must be enabled for the applicable Shopify Market + the customer's destination must match a ShipX Region with an applicable shipping rate.

Ready to Migrate?

Before selecting Switch to Markets, make sure your store has already moved to Shopify's Market-driven Shipping configuration.

Once you're ready, select Switch to Markets in ShipX and confirm the migration.

ShipX will automatically migrate your existing shipping zones, rates, scenarios, conditions, and rate logic to the new Region-based configuration.

After migration, simply:

Verify your Regions → Enable ShipX in the required Shopify Markets → Test your rates

🚨

Important: Once the ShipX migration is completed, it cannot be reversed.
