How to use ShipX with Shopify Sidekick?

Your shipping setup, one question away

Checking your shipping setup used to mean opening ShipX and clicking through scenarios, settings, and logs. Now you can just ask.

Open Shopify Sidekick in your admin and try one of these:

"In ShipX, is Carrier Calculated Shipping enabled for my store?"

"In ShipX, explain how my US Free Shipping scenario works."

Sidekick reads your ShipX setup and answers in plain language. If you want to change something, it gives you a link straight to the right page.

💡

One word you'll see a lot: in ShipX, a scenario is a set of conditions plus the shipping rates your customers see when those conditions match.

What is Shopify Sidekick?

Sidekick is the AI assistant built into your Shopify admin. You'll find it in the "Work with Sidekick" bar at the bottom of your admin, on your Home page, or as an icon at the top right. ShipX connects to it, so Sidekick can answer questions about your shipping setup.

🚨

Please note: Sidekick provides information and guidance but does not create scenarios, configure shipping rates, or modify existing settings.

Getting started

There's no extra screen to open in ShipX. Everything happens right in your Shopify admin.

1. Open your Shopify admin.

2. Click "Work with Sidekick" at the bottom of the screen, click Sidekick on your Home page, or click the Sidekick icon at the top right.

3. Type your question, start it with "In ShipX," and press Enter.

4. The first time you ask about ShipX, Sidekick asks for permission to access ShipX data. Allow it to continue.

5. Whenever you want to make a change, click the link in Sidekick's answer to jump to that page in ShipX.

Rates not showing at checkout? Start here

This is where Sidekick saves you the most time. Instead of digging through settings, ask these four questions in order:

1. "In ShipX, what setup issues should I fix to get my shipping rates working?" Sidekick checks the usual suspects: Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS), testing mode, carrier credentials, and Maps setup.

2. "In ShipX, find recent checkout requests where no shipping rates were returned." You'll see where each order was headed, which scenarios matched, and a History ID for each request.

3. "Which scenario matched History ID [ID]?" If none matched, none of your scenarios' conditions fit that order, and now you know where to look.

4. "Explain how my [scenario name] scenario works." Compare its conditions with the order that didn't get rates.

💡

Still stuck? Message us in the ShipX support chat with the History ID from step 2, and we'll pull up that exact request.

What you can ask

Here's everything Sidekick can help you with, plus questions you can copy straight in.

Get the big picture

Want a quick read on how your store is set up? Sidekick can tell you your shipping mode, ShipX plan, CCS status, active add-ons, connected carriers, how many scenarios you have, and whether Shopify Markets is on.

  • What is currently enabled on my store?
  • Which ShipX plan am I on?
  • Which carriers are connected?
  • How many active scenarios do I have?
  • Is Shopify Markets enabled?

Find a scenario

Looking for a specific scenario? Search by its name, whether it's active or inactive, its rate type, or its shipping zone. Every result links you to the ShipX Rates page.

  • Find all my active scenarios.
  • Show my inactive scenarios.
  • Find scenarios for my [zone name] zone.
  • Find scenarios that use flat rates.
  • Find the scenario named [scenario name].

Understand how a scenario works

Not sure why a scenario behaves the way it does? Sidekick walks you through when it applies, its conditions, its rates, and any delivery options it hides, renames, or reorders. Long ZIP code and product-tag lists get summarized, so you're not scrolling forever.

  • Explain how my [scenario name] scenario works.
  • What conditions are set in [scenario name]?
  • How is the rate calculated in [scenario name]?
  • Which delivery options does [scenario name] hide or rename?

Check your setup health

Sidekick can spot the most common setup problems: CCS turned off, testing mode left on, missing carrier credentials, or Maps not set up. It tells you what to fix first and where to fix it. It won't catch every possible issue, but it's the fastest first check.

  • Is Carrier Calculated Shipping enabled for my store?
  • Is testing mode turned on?
  • Are any carrier credentials missing?
  • What setup issues should I fix first?

Look back at past checkouts

Wondering what happened at checkout for a recent order? Sidekick can show you recent rate requests: where they were headed, which scenarios matched, and whether rates came back. You can filter for requests with or without rates and go further back.

  • Find recent checkout requests where no rates were returned.
  • Show me History ID [ID].
  • Which scenario matched History ID [ID]?
  • Show requests that returned rates.

Learn how to set something up

Planning a new setup? Ask how, and Sidekick gives you step-by-step instructions from our guides, including what you need first, what to watch out for, and a link to the right page. It covers add-ons, carriers, CCS requirements, customer tags, packing, and product sync.

  • How do I set up free shipping above a minimum order value?
  • How do I set up rates based on product weight?
  • How do I connect a carrier?
  • What do I need for Carrier Calculated Shipping?
  • How do I set up rates for customers with a specific tag?

Getting the best answers

A few small habits make a big difference:

  • Start with "In ShipX." It tells Sidekick exactly which app to check.
  • Use the exact scenario name. Put it in quotes, just as it appears in ShipX. For example, "In ShipX, explain the scenario 'US Free Shipping'" works better than "explain my free shipping."
  • Search the way Sidekick does: by scenario name, active or inactive status, rate type, or shipping zone.
  • Keep your History IDs handy. You'll find them in your checkout history results and in [where the History ID appears in ShipX].
  • Ask one thing at a time, then follow up. Short, specific questions get the sharpest answers.

We're here if you need us

If Sidekick doesn't get you all the way there, message us in the ShipX support chat. To help us help you faster, send along:

  • the History ID of the request, if you have one
  • the scenario name involved
  • what you expected customers to see at checkout, and what they saw instead

We'll look at your setup with you and walk you through any change you need.
