The AI-based packing algorithm automatically determines the most efficient way to pack items based on their weight and dimensions.
It selects the best box combination to minimize shipping costs while optimizing space and weight distribution.
How to setup AI-based packing algorithm
- Click βAdd shipping zoneβ on the shipping zone where you want this packing method to apply.

- Select your preferred carrier to calculate live shipping rates.
- Input your carrier account details and click βValidate accountβ to verify the connection.
- Shopify uses your fulfillment location by default. To use a different origin, select βSpecify different locationβ and enter the address details.
- Choose the carrier services you want to offer at checkout.
- Choose βAI-based packing algorithmβ as the packaging method.

- Select how the AI should prioritize packing:
- Largest package first: Uses the largest available box first.
- Largest item first: Packs the largest product into a suitable box first.
- Choose your preferred stacking method to control how items are arranged within the boxes.
- Restrict this packaging method to specific products, if required.
- Under Package measurements, click βAdd packageβ and fill in the following information for each box:
- Package Name
- Maximum Weight Capacity
- Empty Box Weight (optional)
- Outer Dimensions (Length, Width, Height)
- Inner Dimensions (Length, Width, Height)
- Outer Dimensions are sent to the carrier to calculate shipping rates.
- Inner Dimensions are used by the AI to determine how items fit inside the box.

Click βAdd packageβ to save each package.
- Define a fallback shipping rate to be used if the carrier doesnβt return any rates.
- Click βSaveβ to complete your configuration.
How to display or hide package details in orders
When AI-based packaging is used to calculate shipping rates from live carrier services, the system automatically displays the package details in the Order section once an order is successfully completed.
If you prefer to hide the package details from the order view, you can disable this option by following the steps below:
1.Β Navigate to the ShipX App.
2.Β Go to Settings > Shipping Configuration > enable Disable package details in order.

Once this option is enabled, the package details will no longer be displayed in the order section.
Rotational Packing (AI-Based Algorithm)
The Rotational Packing feature is an advanced enhancement available within our AI Packing Algorithm. This feature is designed to intelligently identify the most suitable package for the products added to the cart by evaluating all available package dimensions configured within the app.
Using this functionality, the app can automatically rotate product dimensions in different orientations to determine the optimal fit inside the available packages. This helps improve packing accuracy, reduce unused package space, and increase the efficiency of shipping rate calculations.
How Rotational Packing Works
By default, products are packed using the standard orientation:
- Length Γ Width Γ Height
In addition to the default orientation, the system can evaluate the following five alternative orientations:
- Width Γ Length Γ Height
- Height Γ Length Γ Width
- Length Γ Height Γ Width
- Width Γ Height Γ Length
- Height Γ Width Γ Length
However, only one orientation can be used during the packing process.

Orientation Configuration
You can configure the allowed orientations based on your packing requirements. The AI Packing Algorithm will then evaluate the enabled orientations and determine the best possible package fit for the products in the cart.
Packing History and Visualization
The Rotational Packing process can also be reviewed within the History section of the app.
From the History section, you can review how products were packed, see which orientation was applied, and verify how the AI algorithm selected the most suitable package based on the best-fit calculation.
