The Custom Product Dimensions add-on lets you charge shipping based on dimensions entered by the customer, instead of the dimensions stored in Shopify.
This is useful when you sell products whose size varies per order such as custom-cut materials, fabric, plywood sheets, metal rods, posters, frames, pipes, or any item where length/width/height is chosen by the customer.
When the customer enters their required dimensions on the product page, ShipX reads these values from the line item properties and calculates the shipping rate using your existing dimension-based conditions.
How to activate the add-on
1. Go to Help > Subscriptions.
2. Click Upgrade your plan.
3. Upgrade to the Premium plan if you haven’t already.
4. Click Activate Add-on on Custom product dimensions.
5. Complete the payment process.
How it works
Once activated:
- The add-on looks for dimension inputs entered by the customer during purchase.
- These values are fetched from the line item properties of the product.
- ShipX then uses the dimensions provided by the customer to apply the shipping rates you’ve already configured under dimensional conditions (like weight × volume, dimensional weight, height tiers, etc.).
- The final rate at checkout is calculated based on the customer’s custom size.
This allows you to offer accurate and fair shipping for custom-sized orders without manually entering dimensions for every possible variation.
