The AI-based packing algorithm add-on automatically determines the most efficient way to pack items based on their weight and dimensions. It selects the best box combination to minimize shipping costs while optimizing space and weight distribution.
How to activate the add-on
1. Go to Help > Subscriptions.
2. Click Upgrade your plan.
3. Upgrade to the Premium plan if you haven't already.
4. Click Activate Add-on on AI-based packaging algorithm.
5. Complete the payment process.
How to setup AI-based packing algorithm
- Click “Add shipping zone” on the shipping zone where you want this packing method to apply.

- Select your preferred carrier to calculate live shipping rates.
- Input your carrier account details and click “Validate account” to verify the connection.
- Shopify uses your fulfillment location by default. To use a different origin, select “Specify different location” and enter the address details.
- Choose the carrier services you want to offer at checkout.
- Choose “AI-based packing algorithm” as the packaging method.

- Select how the AI should prioritize packing:
- Largest package first: Uses the largest available box first.
- Largest item first: Packs the largest product into a suitable box first.
- Choose your preferred stacking method to control how items are arranged within the boxes.
- Restrict this packaging method to specific products, if required.
- Under Package measurements, click “Add package” and fill in the following information for each box:
- Package Name
- Maximum Weight Capacity
- Empty Box Weight (optional)
- Outer Dimensions (Length, Width, Height)
- Inner Dimensions (Length, Width, Height)
- Outer Dimensions are sent to the carrier to calculate shipping rates.
- Inner Dimensions are used by the AI to determine how items fit inside the box.

Click “Add package” to save each package.
- Define a fallback shipping rate to be used if the carrier doesn’t return any rates.
- Click “Save” to complete your configuration.
